Dwango apparently thinks that its hit video platform Nico Nico Douga could also make money through social games.
Starting today, the site will have a special section called Nico Nico Applications. Users can initially choose between 10 different titles, i.e. one from Bandai, one from Sega-Sammy, and one super-hit ported over from Mixi (Romance of the 3 Kingdoms).
I gave some of the games a spin today (they were OK), but it’s too early to tell if the average Nico Nico user will get into the habit of playing games on the site.
My feeling is that it will be difficult for Dwango to create another revenue stream with games on Nico Nico, even though some of the company’s subsidiaries make games.
