It’s hard to believe, but Tamagotchi, the handheld digital pet from Bandai, was launched in Japan way back in 1996. And to commemorate the 15th anniversary, Bandai Namco announced it will turn the pet-breeding concept into a mobile social game and distribute it exclusively on Mobage.
“Mobage de asobo! Tamagotchi” (Let’s play Tamagotchi on Mobage!) will be released in the fall for Japanese feature phones. Bandai Namco says the goal of the game will still be raising a cute virtual pet, but that on Mobage, players will be able to “communicate” and interact with each other while their pets are growing.
With the game, Bandai Namco will be targeting female Mobage players between 20-30 years of age.
