After DeNA finally got the green light to buy professional baseball club Yokohama BayStars, the team unveiled the final name and a new logo (see below).
What’s bad for DeNA is that the club isn’t called Mobage BayStars but DeNA BayStars – even though this was known before, the branding effect of the name would be much with the word “Mobage” in it.
There was resistance however from some of the other clubs in Japan’s baseball league (which viewed Mobage as a dating site, not a social gaming platform), forcing DeNA to go with the second-best solution.
