I attended Startupdating #5 yesterday, an event in Tokyo that connects Japan’s web entrepreneurs with engineers looking for new opportunities.
Speakers at the event were Hironao Kunimitsu (CEO of Gumi) and Taisei Tanaka (CEO of Geisha Tokyo Entertainment). Their companies are among the “hottest” of Japan’s mobile social game makers at the moment, providing titles to GREE, DeNA’s Mobage-town and Mixi.
Kunimitsu and Tanaka talked about the newest trends in Japan’s social gaming industry and how Mixi will fare against Facebook in Japan. Kunimitsu, for example, said that until recently he thought Facebook has no chance in Japan but now is starting to think otherwise.
