The Pokemon Company Sees Another Record Financial Year

T

According to a filing (JP) in the Japanese government’s official gazette, The Pokemon Company has seen yet another record financial year.

And the numbers are staggering.

For the fiscal that ended on February 28 this year, The Pokemon Company reported (numbers rounded):

  • Sales: 204 billion yen / US$1.6 billion (up 70.4% from last fiscal)
  • Operating profit: 59 billion yen / US$460 million (up 115%)
  • Net profit: 41 billion yen / US$320 million (up 123%)

Overall, this was The Pokemon Company’s 24th fiscal.

The Pokemon Company is private, which means that disclosure requirements are limited.

However in Japan, some companies of that kind see their numbers disclosed in yearly intervals by the government anyway.

A major reason for this increase across the board is The Pokemon Company’s stacked pipeline last year.

Within last fiscal, releases included Pokemon Snap (April 2021), Pokemon Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl (November 2021) and Pokemon Legends: Arceus (January 2022).

Details of The Pokemon Company’s ownership structure are scarce, but Nintendo (7974) regularly discloses 32% of voting rights.

The other two owners are Creatures Inc. and Game Freak Co., Ltd.

Currency conversion used: 100 yen = US$0.79 as of May 30, 2022 Japan time.
