Sega Starts Offering Social Games On Facebook And hi5

Major Japanese video game maker Sega is planning to jump on the lucrative social gaming bandwagon. Sega has already launched a game called “Sega Play Baseball” on Facebook this month and plans to offer another title called “Sega Play! Football” on social gaming site hi5 in March.

The company is planning to follow up with more titles under its special “Sega Play!” sub-brand for social games on social networks world-wide.

As you can see in the screenshot below, the games will be monetized through sales of virtual goods (in this case: shirts):

Sega has been offering games on platforms other than traditional consoles for years, especially in Japan. The company’s next hit title is an adventure game called Shenmue-Gai (Shenmue City), which will be offered on Mobage and Yahoo Mobage soon.
