Puzzle & Dragons Adds 1 Million Players In 12 Days, Now At 8 Million

The Puzzle & Dragons hype in Japan continues: the country’s top smartphone game has crossed the 8 million-user mark on January 30, maker GungHo revealed yesterday.

Even though Puzzle & Dragons is out in English on both on iOS and Android since last year, success abroad has been limited (to put it nicely), and GungHo actually stresses that the 8 million users are all from Japan.

What’s especially noteworthy about this number is that the game, which is only available in the form of an app (no browser version for feature phones or smartphones), added one million users in just 12 days: it hit 7 million downloads on January 18.

GungHo released Puzzle & Dragons on the Japanese App Store exactly 345 days ago (in February 2012), followed by an Android version in September 2012.

The game has been occupying the top spots (in Japan) in the top grossing app rankings on iPhone, iPad, and Android (Google Play and Amazon Kindle Fire), ultimately making publicly traded GungHo worth more than Zynga.
